Chinese planemaker mulls building aircraft in Brazil

A representative of state-owned planemaker Aviation Industry Corp. of China (AVIC) has said his company is thinking about building civil aircraft in Brazil, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese state-run news agency quotes the AVIC representative, José Santos, as saying so at an aviation industry trade fair in the Brazilian city of São Paulo.

The report quotes Mr Santos as saying AVIC hopes to sell its Y12E utility turboprop plane in Brazil.

“This is a low-cost, broad-capacity plane. It carries 18 passengers and it’s coming to fill a demand that is not being fully met in the Brazilian aviation market – regional aviation,” he said.

AVIC is considering building a factory in Brazil to make the Y12E for sale in the Brazilian market, Xinhua quotes Mr Santos as saying.
