Brazil celebrates Chinese Immigration Day today

Brazil is celebrating today its first Chinese Immigration Day, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency says the day is being marked in important cities by events that show off Chinese culture in general and Chinese cuisine in particular.

The report says Chinese Immigration Day follows the celebration at the weekend of the Festival of Chinese Immigration in the city of São Paulo.

Chinese and Brazilian officials opened the festival, held in a city park.

Among the features of the festival were Chinese food, music and dance, and other traditional Chinese arts such as paper-cutting and calligraphy, Xinhua says.
