Brazilian June retail sales grow 1.5 pct

Official data indicate that the value of retail sales in Brazil was 1.5 percent higher in June than a year earlier, but 0.3 percent lower than the month before, Reuters reports.

The news agency says the data show sales in five of the eight retail markets increased in June, but that sales in supermarkets, sales of food and drink and sales of tobacco products decreased.

Retail sales were curbed by a strike in May by truck drivers all over Brazil, which blocked important highways for 10 days, Reuters says.
