Portuguese unemployment rate falls to 6.7 pct in Q2

Official data indicate that the unemployment rate in Portugal declined to 6.7 percent in the second quarter of this year from 7.9 percent in the first.

The latest unemployment rate was the lowest since the first quarter of 2011.

Portuguese National Statistics Institute data show the second-quarter unemployment rate among workers between the ages of 15 and 24 years was 19.4 percent, also the lowest since the first quarter of 2011.

The data show 4.87 million people in Portugal had jobs in the second quarter, 1.4 percent more than in the first.

The Chinese government-run news agency, Xinhua, says Portuguese unemployment has been falling steadily in recent years from a peak of 17 percent or so in 2013.
