Chinese company eyes Brazilian eucalyptus plantations

Chinese state-owned company China Forestry Group Corp. is among the concerns interested in buying 230,000 hectares of eucalyptus plantations in Brazil, O Estado de S. Paulo reports.

The Brazilian newspaper says French firm Vallourec SA is selling the plantations, which are in the southeastern Brazilian state of Minas Gerais and said to be worth between US$600 million and US$700 million.

The plantations have also attracted the interest of other companies, Brazilian and foreign, O Estado de S. Paulo says.

Separately, Reuters reports that the value of Chinese investment in Brazil amounted to US$14 billion in the first nine months of this year.
