Brazilian president, Chinese FM talk about stronger ties

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi have met and discussed how to strengthen Sino-Brazilian relations, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency quotes Mr Bolsonaro as telling Mr Wang when they met last week that Brazil recognises how important China is and wishes to be a sincere friend of China.

Mr Bolsonaro said his country was ready to cooperate with China in every field for their mutual benefit.

The report says Mr Bolsonaro is due to visit China in October, and that Chinese President Xi Jinping is due to visit Brazil the month after.

China is willing to strengthen its ties with Brazil to set an example for other countries to follow in building their relationships, the report quotes Mr Wang as saying.

Mr Wang called for more Sino-Brazilian cooperation in the oil and gas, farming and infrastructure construction businesses, and for new cooperation in scientific innovation and economic exploitation of technology, Xinhua says.
