Cristiano Ronaldo heads Pestana Hotel Group onslaught in China

Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo has formed a partnership with Pestana Hotel Group of Portugal with a view to tapping new markets for hotel accommodation in Asia in general and in China in particular, Reuters reports.

The news agency says the partners intend to open somewhere outside Portugal next year two Pestana CR7 hotels – the CR7 trademark being a combination of Ronaldo’s initials and the number on his football shirt.

The report quotes Pestana Chief Executive José Theotónio as saying: “The joint brand is opening possibilities to us, Pestana, in places where we would have hardly gotten alone.”

Mr Theotónio said in an interview: “We have contacts to enter other markets, where the brand CR7 is strong, in Asia.”

There is interest in Mainland China and Macau in establishing Pestana CR7 hotels, Reuters quotes Mr Theotónio as saying.
