A Mozambican official has said a Chinese contractor is due to finish by September the rehabilitation of the road leading west from the Mozambican coastal city of Beira to the Zimbabwean border – work which was set back severely by storm damage, Notícias reports.
The Mozambican newspaper quotes the official, César Macuácua of the roads authority, as saying the work includes construction of a new bridge over the River Haruna, which will carry the stretch of the road most badly damaged by Cyclone Idai in March.
The report says the contractor, Anhui Foreign Economic Construction (Group) Co. Ltd, began rehabilitating the road in 2015.
The contractor will charge nothing for putting right the damage caused by the storm, Notícias quotes Mr Macuácua as saying.
