China, Brazil agree on reciprocal fast-tracking of patent applications

China and Brazil have agreed on an arrangement that will mean applicants for patents in one country can have their applications considered swiftly in the other, the Chinese State Intellectual Property Office has announced.

The office issued a written statement quoting its head, Shen Changyu, as saying the agreement will promote development of intellectual property arrangements in China and Brazil, improve services to patent applicants and better safeguard intellectual property rights.

Mr Shen’s Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Pimentel, was quoted as saying the agreement will mean more efficient and convenient services to owners of intellectual property.

The agreement will take effect on 1 February next year.
