Brazil, China begin talks on reciprocal social welfare deal

Representatives of Brazil and China have begun negotiations in Brasília about a reciprocal arrangement for social welfare for citizens of one country living in the other, Mix Vale reports.

The Brazilian news website estimates that 51,000 Chinese live in Brazil and that 11,000 Brazilians live in China.

The report says the agreement sought would take into account contributions made to social welfare funds in one country in distributing social welfare benefits in the other.

The report quotes Brazilian pensions Secretary Marcelo Caetano as saying: “There’s a long way to go. We must get started, to enable regulations that will benefit both workers and employers alike.”
