China gives Guinea Bissau US$3.59mln worth of rice

China has given Guinea Bissau rice worth US$3.59 million to help feed its people, Macauhub reports.

The website says the rice will be passed to 16 charities in Bissau for distribution.

The report quotes Guinea Bissau Minister of Agriculture Nicolau dos Santos as saying the donation is of paramount importance for the relief of farming households whose livelihoods have been impaired by floods or droughts in recent years.

At the ceremonial handover of the rice, Chinese Ambassador to Guinea Bissau Jin Hongjun stressed the importance of agriculture to Guinea Bissau, and remarked that every year Chinese technicians trained about 60 of its people in agricultural techniques, Macauhub says.
