Brazilian coffee exporters say they shipped 88,179 bags of coffee to China in the first five months of this year, 23.1 percent more than in the corresponding period of last year, Xinhua reports.
The Chinese government-run news agency quotes Brazilian Council of Coffee Exporters President Nelson Carvalhaes as saying in an interview that the increase was due to Brazilian efforts to sell more coffee in China, and to the growth of the habit of drinking coffee among young Asians.
Mr Carvalhaes said: “Brazil can offer volume and quality that can meet the demands of different markets.”
The 300,000 producers of coffee in Brazil grow 38 percent of the global supply, Xinhua says.
