Portuguese-language teaching in China discussed in Guangzhou

Almost 80 people attended a conference on the teaching of the Portuguese language in China which was held in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou last week, the Macao Polytechnic Institute says.

The institute issued a written statement saying it got together with the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies to put on the two-day conference.

The institute says the gathering attracted academics, other authorities in their fields and ordinary teachers of Portuguese at 20 or more universities in Brazil, Mainland China, Macao and Portugal.

The statement remarks that the conference was the first of its sort held in the southern Chinese province of  Guangdong, signifying how important universities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area are to the teaching of Portuguese in China; and how Macao, which abuts Guangdong, serves as a source of workers bilingual in Chinese and Portuguese.

The conference was the fifth in a series which began in 2011, the Macao Polytechnic Institute says.
