Chinese envoy envisages Mozambican economic autonomy

Chinese Ambassador to Mozambique Su Jian has said his government hopes recent investments by Chinese will help Mozambique achieve economic autonomy in the decades to come, Notícias reports.

The Mozambican newspaper quotes the ambassador as saying greater economic autonomy would allow Mozambique to face any internal or external challenge, and to grasp any opportunity that might arise.

The report says Mr Su was speaking after the signing of Sino-Mozambican agreements to co-operate on four projects in Mozambique together costing US$100 million.

The agreements are on the construction of a technical institute in the central province of Sofala, the construction of Xai-Xai Airport, Chinese technical assistance for the Zimpeto National Stadium, and exchanges of experts on agriculture and co-operation between them.
