Thousands queue to buy phones in first Xiaomi shop in Brazil

Thousands of people formed a queue 500 metres long outside a shopping centre in the city of São Paulo to be among the first customers of the first shop in Brazil run by Chinese maker of mobile phones Xiaomi Corp., Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency says the shop was opened by Xiaomi and its Brazilian partner, DL.

The report quotes a DL executive, Luciano Barbosa, saying recognition of the quality and accessibility of Chinese products is growing in Brazil.

It says Xiaomi smartphones were available before only in supermarkets and shops selling household appliances.

The Xiaomi stand-alone shop offers a whole range of products, Xinhua quotes DL Director Paulo Xu as saying.
