Consultants tip Mozambican GDP to grow 3.5 pct in 2019

British consulting firm Focus Economics forecasts that Mozambican gross domestic product will grow by 3.3 percent this year and 3.5 percent next year, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes Focus Economics as saying the acceleration will be backed by the easing of monetary conditions and favourable demand abroad for Mozambican coal and aluminium.

The firm says expansion in mining and agriculture increased the annual rate of GDP growth to 3.4 percent in the second quarter of this year from 3.2 percent in the first.

However, the forecasts of growth this year made by Focus Economics and the International Monetary Fund are less than the official forecast of 5.3 percent, the IMF having forecast growth between 3.5 percent and 4 percent, Lusa remarks.
