Chinese contractor renovating infrastructure in Angolan city

State-owned China Harbour Engineering Co. Ltd is leading a US$400 project to renovate the infrastructure of the western Angolan city of Sumbe, Angop reports.

The Angolan state-run news agency quotes Sumbe Mayor Manuel Jorge dos Santos as saying the renovation work began last October and should finish by 2022.

Mr dos Santos said the contractor would install almost 2.8 km of sewers, build almost 18 km of footpaths and revitalise the city gardens.

The renovation will improve the health and quality of life of the 242,000 citizens of Sumbe, who are troubled by dusty roads and poor arrangements for basic sanitation, Angop quotes the mayor as saying.
