Portugal takes step closer to exporting fruit to China

Portuguese and Chinese officials have agreed on arrangements governing Portuguese exports of fruit to China, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency, citing a written statement issued by the Portuguese Agriculture Ministry, says the agreement was signed after Portuguese Agriculture Minister Luís Capoulas Santos and Chinese Customs Minister Ni Yuefeng met in Lisbon.

The ministry says Sino-Portuguese negotiations about opening the Chinese market to Portuguese exports of pears, grapes and citrus fruit are at an advanced stage.

Portuguese and Chinese officials are also discussing exports to China of Portuguese apples, kiwi fruit, nectarines, peaches, plums, honey, meat, eggs and rice, Lusa quotes the ministry as saying.
