US$212-mln Portuguese solar plant project goes to Chinese firm

A subsidiary of state-owned China National Building Material Group Corp has won a contract to engineer and build a 221-MW solar farm in Portugal, the company said this week.

The €200-million (US$212-million) deal is the first photovoltaic park the Chinese firm has constructed in Portugal and will be one of Europe’s biggest, a statement from the company says.

Portugal’s “abundant resources” means there is a significant opportunity to develop a photovoltaic power generation industry.
