Xi Jinping says China, Brazil complement each other

Chinese President Xi Jinping has told Brazilian Vice-president Hamilton Mourão that China and Brazil complement each other to a high degree, and that China supports the development of Brazil and the growth of its prosperity, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency says Mr Xi told Mr Mourão, who was visiting Beijing, that China and Brazil were big, important emerging economies which aimed to develop together and had huge potential.

Mr Xi said China and Brazil should remain partners in development and build the sort of co-operative relationship that other developing countries could emulate.

He said Sino-Brazilian co-operation was bound to open up broader horizons.

The report quotes Mr Mourão as saying Brazil regards China as a trustworthy, stable and reliable strategic partner, is amenable to frequent contact between senior figures in each country, and is ready to increase Sino-Brazilian co-operation and strengthen the Sino-Brazilian friendship.

Brazil would welcome more Chinese investment, and hopes to it can trade more with China and co-operate more with China in science, technology and innovative undertakings, Xinhua quotes Mr Mourão as saying.
