More teaching of Chinese in Cabo Verde schools in prospect

Cabo Verde Education Minister Maritza Rosabal has said she discussed during a recent visit to China how the Confucius Institute can increase the teaching of the Chinese language in schools in her country.

The Cabo Verde government issued a written statement quoting Ms Rosabal as saying the government wishes to make the teaching of Chinese in Cabo Verde more sustainable by sending Cabo Verde teachers to China for instruction in how to teach the language.

Last September a government official said all secondary schools in Cabo Verde would begin teaching their pupils Chinese in the next academic year, after a trial began in 2017 in three parts of the country..

Ms Rosabal was speaking at the reopening of the Salineiro secondary school in Ribeira Grande de Santiago district which was renovated with 4.4 million escudos (about US$44,700) of Chinese money, the government statement says.
