Chinese at forefront of foreign investors keen on Angola

An official of AIPEX, the Angolan investment and export promotion agency, has said China, Portugal and Eritrea were the main sources of foreign investments AIPEX approved between last August and last month, Jornal de Angola reports.

The newspaper quotes the AIPEX administrator, Sandra Dias dos Santos, as saying, on the sidelines of a conference on Angola’s economic diversification efforts, her agency received 118 proposals for investment by foreigners, together worth about US$750 million.

Ms Dias dos Santos said most of the proposals were for investments in manufacturing, commerce or farming in Angola’s capital Luanda and the adjoining province of Bengo.

She said AIPEX and the Angolan government were working together to improve the electricity supply there and solve logistical problems.

Ms Dias dos Santos forecast that the investments approved will create 7,000 jobs, Jornal de Angola says.
