Envoy promises Chinese help in diversifying Angolan economy

Chinese Ambassador to Angola Gong Tao has said his county is willing to harness its Belt and Road initiative to the effort to make the Angolan economy less dependent solely on its oil industry.

The Chinese Embassy in Luanda issued written statements quoting Mr Gong as saying so when he met Angolan Minister of State for Economic and Social Development Manuel José Nunes Júnior and Angolan Minister of Commerce Jofre Van-Dúnem Júnior.

One statement quotes Mr Gong as telling Mr Nunes Júnior that China would strengthen Sino-Angolan economic relations and give new momentum to the development of the relationship.

The other statement quotes Mr Gong as telling Mr Van-Dúnem Júnior that Angolans are welcome at the first China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, to be held in the central Chinese city of Changsha, capital of Hunan province, in June, to promote their country as a place to invest.

The Angolan officials are hoping for opportunities to increase Sino-Angolan economic engagement, the Chinese Embassy statements quote both as saying.
