Macao to help develop primary healthcare in Timor-Leste

A Macao official has said his government has agreed to help Timor-Leste develop its primary healthcare system and improve its measures for preventing disease, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes Macao Health Bureau Director Lei Chin Ion as saying Macao and Timor-Leste have agreed on a hospital twinning arrangement, with the blessing of the UN World Health Organization, under the auspices of the Chinese One Belt, One Road programme.

Mr Lei said Macao intended to invest about US$1 million in hospital twinning arrangements.

A Timor-Leste health official, João Manuel Ximenes, predicted that the help given by Macao will benefit future generations of Timorese, and expressed hope that Macao will give his country further help to reform its healthcare system, Lusa says.
