Brazilian Tourism Minister Marcelo Álvaro Antônio has said his country hopes to attract more Chinese tourists and increase Sino-Brazilian economic engagement, the Macao Daily News reports.
The Chinese-language newspaper quotes Mr Antônio as saying so in a meeting with Global Tourism Economy Forum Secretary-General Pansy Ho Chiu King and others representing the Macao-based body when they visited Brazilian capital Brasília last week.
Mr Antônio said his government had taken measures to draw Chinese tourists such as extending the validity of visitor’s visas from three months to five years and forging links with Chinese tour operators.
The visitors also met the head of Brazilian tourism board Embratur, Leônidas Oliveira, who told them Macao could become an important gateway for Brazil to gain access to the Chinese market, the Macao Daily News says.
