China willing to increase investment in São Tomé e Príncipe

São Tomé e Príncipe Prime Minister Jorge Bom Jesus has said China will invest more in his country and help balance his government’s budget this year, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes Mr Bom Jesus as saying China welcomed demand in São Tomé e Príncipe for more Chinese investment and for more Sino-São Tomé e Príncipe co-operation, including exchanges on a city level.

The report says the prime minister was speaking on his return home from a week in China, where he attended the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2019 and met Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

Mr Li agreed to give the São Tomé e Príncipe government money to help balance its budget this year, Lusa quotes Mr Bom Jesus as saying.

Last month the São Tomé e Príncipe state-run news agency, STP-Press, said the government planned to spend US$150 million this year, about 98 percent of it coming from foreign aid and loans.
