Chinese-backed fisheries project in Guiné-Bissau on schedule

Guiné-Bissau Fishing Minister Adiatu Djaló Nandigna has said the second phase of a Chinese-backed project to build a fishing port at Alto do Bandim would be finished on time two years from now, Agência de Notícias da Guiné (ANG) reports.

The Guiné-Bissau state-run news agency quotes Ms Nandigna as saying the port will have facilities for storing and processing fish, which would add value to the output of the fisheries industry.

Ms Nandigna said that once the facilities were open, the government would compel all vessels fishing in Guiné-Bissau waters to land their catches at the port.

The report says work on the Alto do Bandim fishing port began last November.

The port will cost about US$26.5 million, ANG says.
