China Three Gorges Corp. has increased its stake in Energias de Portugal SA (EDP) to 23.25 percent, reinforcing its position as the main shareholder in the Portuguese electricity company, EDP has announced.
EDP told the Portuguese Securities Market Commission that the Chinese state-owned electricity company had paid about €208 million (US$243 million) for a further 1.9 percent of EDP.
When the Portuguese government privatised EDP, in 2012, China Three Gorges paid €2.7 billion for 21.35 percent of the company.
