Portuguese officials plan for yuan-denominated bond issue but no date set for release

Portuguese officials have discussed the mechanics of a yuan-denominated bond issue with Chinese authorities but a date for the issue has yet to be confirmed, Reuters reports.

“These kinds of projects take time,” said Cristina Casalinho, chairman of the Portuguese Treasury and Debt Management Agency. “For us, if this project goes through it would be a novelty. It would involve new documentation, a completely new investor base and we’d also be front runners of this trend.”

Portugal is poised to be the first Eurozone country to issue yuan-denominated bonds.
