Portugal and China have undertaken to increase their air and sea links in accordance with the Chinese Belt and Road initiative, the Portuguese government says.
The government issued a written statement saying an agreement to this effect is among 17 Sino-Portuguese agreements signed in Lisbon by Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa and visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Among the other agreements are one about allowing the export of Portuguese grapes to China and one about China National Cereals, Oils and Foodstuffs Corp. opening a service centre in Portugal, the government statement says.
Reuters news agency quotes Caixa Geral de Depósitos Chief Executive Paulo Macedo as saying that representatives of the Portuguese state-owned bank and state-owned Bank of China signed one more agreement, which will allow Portugal to issue debt denominated in Chinese yuan.
