Chinese-built power line in Angola wins engineering prize

The Soyo-Kapary electricity transmission line in Angola, built by Sinohydro Engineering Bureau No 4 Co. Ltd of China, has won the China Construction Engineering Luban Prize, the China News Service reports.

The news agency said the prize, awarded by a group of experts from the Chinese Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the China Construction Industry Association, is the top prize a Chinese construction engineering company can win.

The report says the 7.09 billion yuan (US$1.05 billion) Soyo-Kapary electricity transmission line is 1,020 km long and leads to nine substations, making it the longest of its type in Africa.

It is at the heart of a project to supply electricity to Luanda and northern Angola, the China News Service says.
