Portuguese president says Sino-Portuguese relations have ‘great potential’

Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has said there is “great potential for growth” in Sino-Portuguese relations, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency says Mr de Sousa made the observation in an interview published in the China Daily.

The report quotes the president as telling the Chinese government-run newspaper that he believes investors in China can support Portuguese innovation.

Mr de Sousa remarked that Portugal served as a bridge to Europe, Africa, and Central and South America, Lusa says.

Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa visited China this month. He and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang agreed that their countries should increase trade and invest more in each other.
