Chinese Vice-minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Chao expects representatives of China and Portugal to make a joint statement and sign agreements on various matters during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Lisbon on December 4 and 5, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency quotes Mr Wang Chao as saying the agreements will be on culture, education, science and technology, water conservation, quality control, energy and finance.

Mr Wang said Mr Xi would meet Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa and the presiding officer of the Portuguese parliament, Eduardo Ferro Rodrigues.

Mr Xi is visiting Portugal, Spain, Argentina, and Panama in the next nine days with a view to strengthening Chinese ties with each country and increasing co-operation among the G20 group of countries, Xinhua says.
