Portugal to begin selling pork to China in December

Portugal will start exports of pork to China next month, selling meat processed by three slaughterhouses to begin with, Lusa reports, citing the Portuguese swine industry association and the appropriate Chinese authorities.

The Portuguese news agency quotes the head of the industry association, Nuno Correia, as saying he expects the exports to be worth about €100 million (about US$114.07 million) in the first year and €200 million in the second.

The exports will boost farming in Portugal, Lusa quotes Mr Correia as saying.

Portuguese Agriculture Minister Luís Capoulas Santos announced this month that agreement had been reached on Portuguese exports of pork to China.
