Exporters hoping to sell more Brazilian pork in China

Brazilian exporters of pork are optimistic that sales to China will keep growing this year, in view of the outbreak there of African swine fever, Pig Progress reports.

The website says the amount of pork Brazil exported to China grew to 154,500 tonnes last year, 216 percent more than the year before, making China the biggest foreign market for Brazilian pork after Hong Kong, which bought 161,200 tonnes last year, 3 percent more than the year before.

The report quotes Brazilian Animal Protein Association Director Ricardo Santin as saying Brazilian exporters are ready to meet even greater demand from China this year.

Lousiviano de Lorenzi, the head of the pork industry association in Santa Catarina, one of the main pig-farming and pork-processing areas of Brazil, expects this year to be a prosperous one for the industry, in large part because of Chinese demand, Pig Progress says.
