Portugal tipped to sell China €100 mln worth of pork in 2019

Portuguese Economy Minister Pedro Siza Vieira has forecast that his country will sell China pork worth €100 million (about US$114.07 million) this year, having sold none there last year, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes Mr Siza Vieira as saying at a commercial event in Lisbon that the opening-up of China to Portuguese pork is just one of the results of his government’s efforts to find new markets for Portuguese goods.

Mr Siza Vieira praised Portuguese companies for becoming more competitive and for the strength of their ability to promote their products abroad.

The first 10 containers of Portuguese pork destined for China were shipped out last month, after China agreed in November to allow in meat processed by three slaughterhouses in Portugal.
