China gives Guiné-Bissau machinery for its soldier-farmers

Chinese Ambassador to Guiné-Bissau Jin Hongjun has turned over a gift of farm and construction equipment to the African country’s army, Agência de Notícias da Guiné-Bissau (ANG) reports.

The Guiné-Bissau state-run news agency quotes the country’s chief of defence staff, Biagué Na Tan, as saying his forces are farming over 100 hectares of land because agriculture is the core of the economy.

The construction equipment delivered by China also helps balance the defence budget, ANG quotes Guiné-Bissau Defence Minister Eduardo Sanha as saying.

Separately, a Guiné-Bissau newspaper, O Democrata, quotes the Chinese ambassador as saying the equipment he turned over includes tractors and threshing machines.
