China second-biggest trading partner of Timor-Leste in 2018: Ambassador

Chinese Ambassador to Timor-Leste Xiao Jianguo has said the second-biggest trading partner of Timor-Leste last year was China, according to the Chinese Embassy in Dili.

A written statement issued by the embassy quotes Mr Xiao as saying so at a gathering to celebrate the Lunar New Year next month. The statement says about 200 guests attended, including Timor-Leste officials and representatives of Chinese companies and the Chinese community in Dili.

It quotes Mr Xiao as saying more and more Chinese companies are investing in Timor-Leste, notably in infrastructure, farming and commerce.

The ambassador said the seven medical missions China had sent to Timor-Leste since 2004 had together attended to over 300,000 people so far, and that the seventh was still in progress.

This year is an important year for the development of Timor-Leste, and may bring new opportunities for entrepreneurs, the Chinese Embassy in Dili quotes Mr Xiao as saying.
