Portugal ponders considers issuing bonds in yuan-denominated bonds, says Finance Minister

Portugal could issue sovereign bonds denominated in yuan, according to Finance Minister Mário Centeno.

The Portuguese news agency Lusa quoted Mr Centeno after a three-day visit to Mainland China where he met officials from the People’s Bank of China and leading banks.

“It is a way to expand our base of investors and to attract financing,” Mr Centeno was quoted as saying.

Mainland firms have been among the leading investors in Portugal since the 2000s, acquiring interests in the energy, insurance, health and banking sectors.
