Portuguese agriculture minister wrapping up visit to China

Portuguese Agriculture Minister Luís Capoulas Santos ends today a two-day visit to China, a market he hopes to open up further for Portuguese food exports, O Jornal Económico reports.

The Portuguese newspaper quotes a written statement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture as saying Mr Capoulas Santos met executives of several big Chinese distributors of food and told them about the high standards of food safety in Portugal.

The minister is attending today the opening of China International Import Expo in Shanghai, where Portugal is well represented, and will later have meetings with Chinese Agriculture Minister Hang Changfu and Chinese Customs Minister Ni Yuefeng, O Jornal Económico says.

In another report, Portuguese radio station TSF quotes Mr Capoulas Santos as saying the Sino-Portuguese trade in food and drink is one of the few areas of trade where Portugal has a surplus.
