Luanda’s future financial centre on the way

The first building for the planned financial centre in Angola’s capital, Luanda, will be inaugurated this month, Angolan newspaper Jornal de Angola reported last week.

The inauguration of the first of a total of 20 buildings – each of them with 28 floors – is scheduled for September 22, said Miguel Carneiro, President of the Executive Council of Sociedade Baía de Luanda, the company responsible for the project.

According to the newspaper, Luanda’s new financial centre will be on a 3-kilometre strip of land next to the city’s port. The area is part of a redevelopment project started in 2004.

The new zone next to Luanda’s waterfront will include housing, office buildings, hotels and shops, the media outlet added.

Mr Carneiro said – as quoted by the newspaper – that the entire supporting infrastructure has been completed. He also said 12 of the 20 land plots available were already being negotiated with prospective occupants, with talks on five plots having reached an advanced stage.
