Chinese firms want to buy Brazilian engineering firms: Chamber

Mainland corporations want to acquire engineering groups, and gain the rights to build and operate commercial railways in Brazil, Reuters reports.

The news agency reports the Brazil-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been approached by Mainland businesspeople to “find suitable targets” for acquisition. “In the past, Chinese firms would never be able to enter Brazilian infrastructure projects because the large local engineering groups were dominant,” the Chamber’s head, Charles Tang, told Reuters.

Mr Tang said companies wanted to invest about 13 billion reais (US$4.13 billion) in the Brazilian railways, but also viewed agriculture and oil exploration as target sectors.
