São Tomé and Príncipe PM to visit Mainland China this month

São Tomé and Príncipe Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada will visit Mainland China at the end of the month to finalise co-operation agreements between the two nations, Macao Magazine reports.

Co-operation with the Mainland will transform São Tomé and Príncipe and benefit economic development, Mr Trovoada is quoted as saying. The interview was released last week and was published by the Macauhub website to mark the African country’s formal admission to the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), also known as Forum Macao.

Mr Trovoada said his country was looking at Forum Macao “with great interest”. He highlighted São Tomé and Príncipe as a services and logistics platform, and said fisheries and tourism could be developed.

The Mainland and São Tomé and Príncipe restored official diplomatic ties in December.
