Chinese Cinema Week opens in São Tomé e Príncipe

Chinese Ambassador to São Tomé e Príncipe Wang Wei, São Toméan Youth and Sports Minister Vinício de Pina and São Toméan Secretary of State for Media Adelino Lucas were among the diplomats and government officials joining the opening of Chinese Cinema Week in the capital, São Tomé, STP-Press reports.

The São Toméan state-run news agency quotes Mr Wang as saying he hopes the film festival, which opened on Monday, will let São Toméans see and understand the past and present of China.

The festival is part of the celebrations around the world of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, STP-Press quotes Mr Wang as saying.

In a separate report, the Chinese government-run news agency, Xinhua, says nearly 300 people attended the opening in Lisbon last week of another festival of Chinese films, which celebrates 40 years since Portugal and the People’s Republic of China established diplomatic relations.
