Chinese firm builds Cape Verde school for up to 1,800-students

A Chinese firm has completed construction of a school on Cape Verde’s Sal Island. It will help promote education in the African country, the Chinese Embassy in Cape Verde said in a statement on Thursday.

The 8,000-square-metre school was built by Huashan International Engineering Co and can host up to 1,800 students, the statement said. The firm – also known as Shaanxi Construction Engineering Group Corp – is controlled by the Shaanxi provincial government.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce commissioned a team to inspect the quality of the works, the Embassy said. The one-week site inspection ended on Monday and the project passed the assessment.

The school is to be handed over to Cape Verde’s authorities in September, the Embassy stated.
