Mainland investment in Mozambique is worth about US$6 billion in total

Mainland investment in Mozambique has reached almost US$6 billion in cumulative terms, Macauhub reports.

The website quotes data from the Chinese Embassy to Mozambique. Nie Quan, China’s Embassy attaché in Portugal, disclosed the data at a speaking engagement in Lisbon last week that focused on the roles of Portugal and Macau as international platforms for trade and investment.

“The pace of growth of Chinese investment in Mozambique has been very fast,” Quan was quoted as saying. He said there were about 100 Chinese companies operating in Mozambique in fields including energy, agriculture, fishing, real estate, building materials, tourism, public transport, telecommunications, infrastructure and trade.

“Chinese investment in Mozambique aims to help Mozambicans to be self-sufficient, both in industry and in agriculture,” the diplomat said.
