Chinese Ambassador to São Tomé e Príncipe Wang Wei has announced that his embassy will endow the China-São Tomé e Príncipe Friendship Award, to be given annually to the best 200 São Toméan school pupils, Téla Nón reports.
The São Toméan news website quotes Mr Wang as saying prizes will be awarded to the top three pupils in the country, and to the best in each school in the 4th, 6th, 9th, 10th, and 11th years of their education.
Mr Wang said the prizes would include bicycles, school supplies, backpacks, material for school uniforms and tablet computers, along with small sums of cash for the families of the winners.
The ambassador expressed hope that the prizes will spur São Toméan pupils to study hard, Téla Nón says.
