Exports form the mainland surge by 15.9 pct last month

Exports from the Mainland were 15.9 percent higher last month than the first month of 2016, the General Administration of Customs of China said on Friday.

Measured in yuan, imports also grew substantially compared to 2016, increasing by 25.2 percent.

The government-run news agency Xinhua reported the comments of Bloomberg’s Chief Asia Economist Tom Orlik. He said the outlook for the Mainland’s exports was positive after investments in manufacturing and a rebound in demand in the United States.

About 2.18 trillion yuan (US$482.2 billion) was recorded in trade last month, an increase of 19.6 percent in year-on-year terms.

Machinery and electronics exports accounting for 56.1 percent of exports. Their value was 16.6 percent greater last month than at the same time last year.
