Guangxi Construction signs on to build East Timor’s first skyscraper

Chinese company Guangxi International Construction Engineering Co., Ltd and Li Tyen Development SA will develop two 17-floor towers in East Timor, creating the nation’s first skyscraper, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency says the US$70-million Timor Fortuna Central Plaza will be located in the western section of in Dili, East Timor’s capital. Construction of the building, with a floor area of more than 60,000 square metres, will begin in February and should be complete within three years. The towers will house 183 shops, offices, 170 flats and a restaurant.

“The Timor Fortuna Central Plaza will become the new flagship building in East Timor and we will continue to work in a positive and progressive way to improve the commercial and residential area of Dili,” Guangxi’s president, Fuquan Li, was quoted as saying.
