China Road and Bridge Corp eyes São Tomé and Príncipe projects

China Road and Bridge Corp has expressed interest in taking part in building a deep-water port and in modernising an airport in São Tomé and Príncipe, Macauhub reports.

The website says the expression of interest was made in a meeting of representatives of the company and São Tomé and Príncipe President Evaristo Carvalho.

The report quotes one representative of China Road and Bridge as saying the company was also interested in taking part in other infrastructure projects in São Tomé and Príncipe.

The port will be in Lobata, near the capital, São Tomé, and cost US$800 million, while the modernisation of the airport is expected to cost more than US$15 million, Macauhub says.

Representatives of nine Mainland Chinese companies are due to visit São Tomé and Príncipe to seek potential investments.

The Mainland and São Tomé and Príncipe restored diplomatic relations last month, after the African country ended 19 years of diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
